(If you have already signed up to be an Early Reader, you do not need to do so again).
Note: This is a separate sign-up from the Agile for Hardware email series, but if you are not on that list, please sign up for it, too! It will show you where I’m headed.
I’m nearing completion of my next book, When Agile Gets Physical: How to Use Agile Principles to Accelerate Hardware Development, with my long-time colleague, Kathy Iberle.
Today, the information available is mostly written by Agile software experts — and it shows. They mostly take a “Just Use Agile” approach that does not account for the real differences between hardware development and software development.
Why “Just Use Agile” Doesn’t Work
This book will explain why “Just Use Agile” doesn’t work, and what you need to do instead to accelerate development when you make physical products.
Hardware teams can increase their agility — their flexibility and responsiveness — to accelerate development. They can even use Agile principles to do it. For that to work, the team needs to understand how to apply the principles while changing practices and tools to meet their teams’ needs.
You are invited to become an Early Reader!
The first edition will be a short-form self-published “Minimum Viable Product” in eBook form which will contain a lot of valuable insights and information, but probably not all the details. Then we’ll expand it into a full-length book.
But that doesn’t mean we don’t need feedback. If anything, the short book will require more intensive editing to make sure we have the right content to make an immediate difference.
Early readers will receive two rounds of chapters: “Text Only” chapters with graphics in separate files and then designed chapters with the near-final layout. The first round focuses mainly on content and clarity. The second round is to assess whether or not the visual layout supports the concepts.
We Need Readers!
To be most helpful, you’ll need to be available to read chapter drafts, and provide us with feedback by the deadline, so that the writing is finished in time for a Fall publication date.
If you can commit to this, please sign up using the form at the top of this page. And if it doesn’t work for you to be involved, stay tuned for updates as we anticipate releasing the book later this Fall.
